Goodreads alternative

A Goodreads alternative that helps you read, not just shelve

Bring your Goodreads shelves over in a minute, then keep them alive with a reading timer, a daily streak, friends and clubs. Bookadoro tracks the reading itself, not only the list of books, and it has no ads.

Free on iPhone and Android. No account needed to start.

How it works

  1. 01

    Import your shelves

Paste the link to your Goodreads profile and Bookadoro reads your public shelves. Or upload the CSV export from Goodreads. Nothing is written back to your account.

  2. 02

Your shelves land where they belong

Read becomes Finished, currently-reading becomes Reading and to-read becomes To read, with the ratings and read dates you gave each book.

  3. 03

    Keep going with a timer

Start a session on the book you're reading. Every finished session logs the page you reached, keeps your streak alive and earns XP.

What you get that Goodreads doesn't

A Pomodoro reading timer

Timed sessions with breaks that end by asking which page you reached. Reading, measured in minutes, not only in finished books.

Daily streaks and reminders

One session a day keeps the streak. A reminder at your usual reading time catches the days you forget.

XP, levels and weekly leagues

Every session earns XP, 100+ achievements mark the milestones, and a weekly league ranks you against readers at your level.

Friends and book clubs

A feed of what your friends are reading, kudos on finished books, and clubs with one current book and shared progress.

Ratings and reviews, kept with the book

Stars, a written review and separate marks for plot, characters, writing and pacing. Share any review as an image.

Community ratings without the noise

See how other Bookadoro readers rated a book, and what your friends gave it, without ads or a feed you didn't ask for.

Free tools in the browser

Turn a Goodreads shelf into a book tier list, bookshelf grid or year-in-books card at bookadoro.com/create, no account needed.

Full stats and exportPlus

A reading heatmap, weekly trends, genre breakdown and a PDF or CSV export of your own data.

Everything else is free. Plus is an optional subscription for $0.99 a month.

To be fair to Goodreads: it still has by far the biggest catalogue of reviews, the lists, the giveaways and the yearly challenge everyone knows. Bookadoro is the better choice if what you want is to read more, and you can keep your Goodreads account: the import reads it and never changes it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I import my Goodreads library into Bookadoro?
Yes. In the app, paste the link to your Goodreads profile and Bookadoro reads your public shelves (read, currently reading, to-read and your custom shelves). If your profile is private, export the CSV from Goodreads (My Books, Import and export) and upload that instead.
Does Bookadoro change anything on Goodreads?
No. The import only reads. Your Goodreads shelves, ratings and reviews stay exactly as they are, and you can keep using both.
What happens to my ratings and read dates?
Imported books keep the shelf, the star rating and the date you read them. Finished books show as finished with the date, so your history is intact.
Do imported books count toward stats and XP?
They count in your library and your finished-books history. XP, streaks and leagues come from reading sessions you do in the app, so an import doesn't hand anyone a head start in the leagues.
Is there a web version?
The app is for iPhone and Android. On bookadoro.com you can import a Goodreads shelf into free builders such as the book tier list maker, and join Reading Sprint rooms, without an account.
Is Bookadoro free?
Yes, and without ads. The library, the Goodreads import, the timer, streaks, friends and clubs are free. Bookadoro Plus ($0.99 a month) adds full stats with export, custom lists, streak shields and open-ended sessions.
